Clayton & Son’s was founded in 1840 by Joseph Clayton. The company have always operated right in the heart of the town, with its tannery today situated on Clayton Street in Chesterfield and its original tannery within this vicinity. Clayton & Sons have a strong history in industrial leather – providing leather belts for machinery in the industrial mills around the area. They then evolved and began to venture into making leather for shoes and modern bridle leather which is more used in fashion. Continue reading about our heritage.
